Adoption: How To Get Through The Hard Times

Your adoption journey is one of a kind, but every birth mother experiences both ups and downs along the way.

For women who decide to go the adoption route, there will be moments of uncertainty. This is perfectly normal and your questions are important. Having A Guardian Angel by your side can help you navigate this challenging time. We are here to offer support during times of uneasiness—and we are also here to celebrate with you throughout. Here are some useful tips to remember as you experience the emotions that come with this process.

Tip #1: Remember why

Setting out to accomplish something challenging always begins with a “why.” Why did you choose adoption? Think of the moment you knew it was the right choice for you and your baby. Every adoption story is completely its own, but many birth mothers say that they chose adoption because they wanted to give their baby the best possible support—financially, emotionally or physically. Whenever you doubt your decision, remember that you made your choice out of love.

Tip #2: Share your experience

Many women who have chosen adoption go through the same feelings that you are experiencing right now—and A Guardian Angel has helped them through their journey. We are here for you and will listen and help you every step of the way. Some birth mothers find it helpful to write their baby a letter—even if you do not end up sending it to the child, this exercise can be therapeutic. There are also countless support groups. A Guardian Angel can help you find a group that is right for you.

Tip #3: Stay connected

If you elect to have a semi-open or open adoption, you can be comforted by the fact that this journey with your baby does not end at childbirth. You can connect to your baby in various ways after placement. We will be with you as you sit down with the adoptive parents before your baby’s placement and discuss possible forms of communication. A Guardian Angel will help walk you through this process and discuss how you can approach things like holidays and birthdays. We always make sure both parties are on the same page. At A Guardian Angel Adoptions, we believe adoption is not separating families but joining them! You and your baby will always have your baby’s adoptive family and the Guardian Angel family.

A Guardian Angel will be with you for the before, during and after of this process. We are here to answer your questions and make sure you feel peaceful about your decision. Like so many mothers already have, you too will find that adoption is one of the most rewarding and empowering choices you can make.
